Designed for the Digital Age

For the executive team at Athol Credit Union, the use of online and digital banking channels to grow their membership inspired a new vision for the interior design of their main branch, located on the ground floor of the historic Starrett Building in Athol, Massachusetts. A revitalized website served as the prototype for these changes and the motivation behind many of their decisions.

The lengthy teller line and large lobby, which occupied the majority of the original space, no longer served the credit union’s purpose and failed to offer the comfort and amenities they desired. A new layout and design was developed to more accurately serve their current lobby needs, accommodate the increased need for private offices, and reflect their robust online presence. While most members rely on their website for basic banking matters, the branch itself has transitioned into a consultative space.

A new free-standing teller pod allows employees to handle transactions using cash recyclers for more efficient cash handling and better security. The drive-up VAT equipment was relocated to better serve the drive-thru members and IT systems were updated. Interior finishes, including all new modern LED lighting, have created a more contemporary look and accentuated the Athol brand. These strategic modifications have resulted in brighter, more inspired employees and an enhanced member experience.
