Challenges
- Construct a building to accommodate a branch of Rockville Bank, as well as provide space for future tenants
- Create a new brand image that is modern and professional, while maintaining a welcoming, friendly, community-bank atmosphere
- Develop meeting space that is private without detracting from the bank's overall spaciousness
- Work against poor weather conditions to prepare a building site that would support the structure, and prevent a resulting mudslide from obstructing local traffic
The Solidus Approach
- Worked closely with Planning and Zoning and the developer to ensure that utilities were properly located, the sidewalk and curb cuts were perfectly placed and building and street signage were up to code
- Completed extensive site work to correct soil conditions and achieve the proper setting for the location of the building foundation and parking lots
- Responded to severe weather conditions, which were undermining the site's largest retaining slope, by working with the engineering team to redesign and reconstruct the slope, thereby preventing a potential major traffic hazard
- Used glass walls to create dividers for private meeting spaces, and optimized the use of light to maintain spaciousness
- Alleviated complicated design and marketing planning by bringing in an all-in-one architect/interior design/marketing firm to meet directly with Rockville Bank
- Developed a brand image that is both contemporary in design and inviting in atmosphere
- Eliminated time-consuming meetings by communicating extensively with the client via conference call and email to allow the client to continue normal business operations
Results
- Despite weeks of torrential rain, Solidus was able to complete the project one month before the deadline and fulfill the client's need for public meeting space, private meeting space, tenant space and two drive-through lanes. Rockville Bank was so pleased with the results that it awarded Solidus three branch renovation projects while this project was under way.
