Challenges

• Redesign and renovate the 24-7 facility of Bridgeport's 173-year-old steel goods manufacturer, Bushwick Metals
   
• Install new pipes, wires and conduit in an old warehouse space with many structural unknowns
   
• Design and build a new mezzanine-level office space - with interior and exterior staircase access - over existing offices
   
• Create new high-security entryway with doors made of ballistic-resistant materials
   
• Design and install an updated HVAC system for improved air quality
   
• Integrate a new furniture and flooring scheme with existing furniture
   
• Maintain the safety, security and productivity of Bushwick Metals' operations during construction

The Solidus Approach

• Designed the project in phases to ensure the company maintained its 24-7 operations
   
• Installed special security measures, like a bullet- and impact-resistant door that has the look of a French door with glass panels
   
• Relocated phone and data systems daily so employees could remain connected to customers, suppliers and the floor during construction
   
• Modified construction plans to accommodate structural and wiring challenges, completing the framing and sheetrock first to create a clean, finished work space for the new offices
   
• Shut down and relocated Bushwick's main power source for only four hours in order to accommodate the new exterior stair design
   
• Utilized steel supports with eye beams to create the code-compliant space necessary for asbestos abatement work
   
• Met initial floor installation timetable despite later addition of carpet padding at Bushwick's request

• Solidus delivered a clean, functional, pleasant and safe environment to Bushwick's management, administrative and support staff in four months and at the specified budget
